I have been thinking a lot about what happens when I make a New Year’s Resolution. In my own head it is usually the “kiss of death” for whatever I am resolute to accomplish. I know that I’m not the only one with this feeling that a New Year’s Resolution is a recipe for failure. Take for example memberships at health clubs, they are always selling like crazy at the beginning of January but by March or April there are always available spin bikes or spaces in the pila
es classes. Similarly, at the Weight Watcher’s meetings they always used to tell us to watch how the room would be full at the beginning of the year with newly motivated members, but the really committed people were the ones who were still consistantly coming 6 months later.
With this in mind, I have decided that for me it is better to not set a Resolution per se, but instead to set some realistic, short term Goals for myself for the New Year. I have decided that by giving myself shorter amounts of time to accomplish things, I am setting myself up for success. Once I have completed these I can move on to make some other short term Goals. And, by the way, if I haven’t finished with what I had intended to do I also give myself permission to take some more time to get whatever it is done. Now doesn’t that seem like a more positve approach?
For some reason the word “Goal” to me is not as critical or finite as “Resolution”. I feel that by the time the year is over I may have successfully accomplished more things than I would have if I had set 1 really intense Resolution.
So, for 2015 my Goals are simple but not easy. I want to work hard to find a comfortable balance between my home and work. I also hope to stay healthy and happy while marketing my business in new and exciting ways. I am excited to continue to learn new things to share with my family, friends and clients about how to live a healthier life through the choices they make about the foods they eat and the steps they take towards better self-care. It all starts at home though, so for right now I hope to find new foods to satisfy my husband’s sweet craving but without sugar because he’s become a little bored with Dates.
I wish you all a Healthy and Happy 2015!
