Lately, while walking with Oakley my Wheaten Terrier, I find myself looking for butterflies. These gentle, fluttering beauties have become a symbol over the last few years that my mom is looking out for me and my family. So far this year I haven’t come across any and it made me wonder why.
Could it be though that while looking for actual butterflies I have missed the point? In the children’s story, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, the caterpillar spun a cocoon around itself, until it was ready to be reborn as a beautiful butterfly. Similarly, I have witnessed my clients feed their bodies and souls the food which has allowed them to transform into something more healthy, vibrant and happy.
With Mother’s Day and my Birthday having just passed, it is no wonder that I am focused on how much healthier my lifestyle has become. By focusing on a clean, whole food and mostly plant-based diet, I not only feel healthier but I also feel “well”. As we get older it becomes so much more important to take care of ourselves and to nourish our body, mind and spirit.
Wellness must become an important part of our self-care routine. Without taking care of our bodies from the inside out we are simply applying a band aid to whatever is causing a problem without figuring out why. Like they tell us on the airplane during the safety check before takeoff, we will not be able to give assistance to anyone else who needs us if we don’t take care of ourselves first.
So, rather than looking for the butterfly, why not focus on your own metamorphosis this Spring. Are you where you want to be with your health and weight goals? Or, do you want to feel better in your body than you do today?
I hope you take some time to smell the roses and notice the beauty in nature this Spring. If you’re lucky maybe you will find some butterflies too!
Yours In Good Health,
Debbie
